Kick of Menstrual Hygiene campaign at Volvo Ocean Race stop-over

The only all women’s boat sailing in the Volvo Ocean Race will be sailing into Scheveningen Harbour (the Netherlands) on June 19.

Olympic sailer Sara Hastreiter will hold a speech to mark the official start of a ‘Menstrual Hygiene Call to Action’. This is an initiative of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the WSSCC and Simavi alongside other development organisations in the Netherlands, supported by global hygiene company SCA.

The Call to Action aims to enhance coordination between different international stakeholders working on menstrual hygiene, particularly with the Sustainable Development Goals in mind. Sara will raise awareness about the taboo that women and girls in developing countries face during their menstruation and the hygiene risks they run. Simavi’s Menstrual Hygiene expert Hilda Alberda will present NGO approaches to tackle the problem.
