Poor sanitation leads to diseases such as cholera, typhoid, diarrhea and hepatitis A. Diarrhoeal diseases are the third biggest killer of people in low-income countries! Isn’t it strange that worldwide, more people die of diarrhoea, than of HIV/AIDS, malaria and measles all together?
This is not only a silent humanitarian disaster; it has also a disruptive effect on society. Because health is a prerequisite to for people to be able to work and go to school. It is a condition for productivity and economic development. By ensuring that people can use proper sanitation, we eliminate the cause of diseases, death and other dangers like rape of women who need to defecate outside when it is dark.
Simavi joins the world celebration in the Netherlands through the I Love My Toilet (#Ilovemytoilet) campaign, which kickstarted on November 16. In cooperation with CWS Nederland, we encourage you to talk about your comfort zone – the toilet. It’s about time for an homage. Please take some time and attention for this special place in your home. Make a selfie at the toilet and upload it to simavi.nl/ilovemytoilet or tweet your photo to #ilovemytoilet and nominate three friends to do the same. You also can donate a toilet visit of 50 euro cents to help tackle an urgent problem of almost a third of the world’s population.
I love my toilet, do you?
