Technical Advisor SRHR & GBV

(maternity leave replacement for 4 months, 10 hours per week)

The challenge

Simavi is looking for Technical Advisor on women-centred programming, sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and gender based violence (GBV). We are looking to fill in the technical advisor role in the programme Our lives, our health, our futures: empowering adolescent girls and young women in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, Bangladesh, to live with dignity and without violence. This programme is funded by the European Union and started in January 2019.

The impact of the programme is to enable and support young women and adolescent girls from indigenous groups in the Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh to transition into adult womanhood with dignity, and bodily and sexual autonomy, without violence, coercion and/or discrimination. The programme applies a holistic approach where we support young women and girls to identify, articulate and voice their needs (through services, advocacy. etc.) while the work with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), mothers, men/boys, community leaders and service providers is to ensure that these stakeholders respond to and engage with the needs, rights and priorities of young women and girls.

You report to the Programme Manager.

Your main tasks and responsibilities

  • Responsible for design of women-centred programming training module for the technical support to local CSOs receiving financial-organisational, methodological and technical support;
  • Responsible for the design of SRHR and GBV activities based on needs assessment, programme proposal and work plan, responsive to the needs of women and girls and sensitive to the tension in the area of implementation;
  • Responsible for adapting training modules and materials and lead the training of local CSOs and key programme staff in Bangladesh;
  • Provide on-going coaching and support to local CSOs and key programme staff in Bangladesh to apply the knowledge in their programming, planning and implementation;
  • Monitors quality of women-centred programming and SRHR, GBV activities;
  • Work with other programme staff in-country and in the Netherlands to make sure that all activities and capacity building process is aligned with women-centred approach and principles;
  • Support Master Trainers based at CSOs and Cluster Leads on the annual planning and preparation for intervention first phase, initial engagement and entry, set up of girls clubs, etc. according to work plan.

Do you recognise yourself in this profile?

  • You have an academic level of education (master degree);
  • You have at least 5 years of relevant working experience in the sector;
  • You have in-depth knowledge on different aspects of SRHR, women’s empowerment and/or GBV;
  • You have demonstrated experience in the development of training materials, modules, providing trainings and technical assistance on SRHR, women’s empowerment and/or GBV;
  • You have demonstrated experience and affinity with working with civil society organisations in developing countries (incl. capacity strengthening);
  • You have excellent communication skills (oral and written) in English within a multicultural context;
  • You are result-driven and entrepreneurial;
  • You are a team player and are open to others opinions;
  • Eligible to work in the Netherlands and able to travel to programme countries.
