Simavi publishes Impact Report 2021 and takes a new step towards Shift the Power

Article: 01.06.22, Amsterdam, Karin Bojorge-Alvarez

Create an annual report together with colleagues in six countries. That was the challenge that Simavi took upon itself. And with results

The Impact Report 2021 published today contains not only the most important facts and figures behind Simavi's projects, but also personal stories, columns and many examples of how Simavi achieves impact together with partners.

Equal division of roles

The choice not to write the Impact Report 2021 from the Amsterdam office, but to make it a co-creation, is a logical step in Simavi's Shift the Power policy. Shifting the Power means working towards an increasingly equal division of roles. In our projects, that means shifting leadership to women and girls themselves. And in our daily work towards employees and partner organisations in the countries where Simavi works.

Hilda Alberda, as Manager Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning, coordinated the preparation of the Impact Report 2021. 'We try to innovate every year, and this year we wanted to take a new step in the context of Shift the Power. Several duos took responsibility for compiling and writing a chapter.’

Better validated report

From Bangladesh, MEL & Communication Assistant Samir Kumar Paul interviewed Vera Arnoldus, member of the Supervisory Board at Simavi. ‘I had been working for Simavi for less than half a year at the time, so I was honored and a little nervous that Simavi entrusted me with such an important part of the report. But I got good feedback on my preparation, and it was a very interesting conversation. I think it is commendable that Simavi is setting a good example in this way when it comes to Shifting the Power.’

Diana Kazooba, Knowledge Management & Learning officer at Simavi in Uganda, also looks back with pleasure on her contribution to the creation of the Impact Report. ‘I was working on the story connected to the Wash & Learn project about using wastewater from households for kitchen gardens. And I co-wrote the chapter on lobbying and advocacy. Because we better understand the context and the partner organisations we work with, this leads to a better validated report. And it's fun and motivating to be part of the whole process.’

Alberda: ‘The challenge for next year will be – in line with our new Theory of Change – to not only tell the stories from the programs in the different countries, but also the stories of what Simavi has done itself. For example in the field of new collaborations and successful campaigns.’
